Whooooo Says You Can't Have Cute Grocery Totes?

This was a feat for me! I'm actually really proud of this bag. It has been the best piece of sewn something I've made. Yay for overcoming a hurtle! I saw this fabric in our local fabric store and fell in love with it! Whoooo cares if its kind of boy-ish; Dana over at MADE is celebrating the boy month! Whooot for boys! I will be creating multiples of this bag!
You can find how to create this bag in the Tutorial section, or if you click on the picture below it will take you there too!

Reusable Grocery Tote Tutorial

Things You Will Need:
-Fabric- 1 yard of each fabric. An Exterior and Interior.
-Fusible Interfacing - 3 yards
-These dimensions:
      Bag: 8- 20X18 pieces. {2 of each fabric and 4 interfacing pieces}
      Handles: 8- 2X20 pieces. {2 of each fabric and 4 interfacing pieces}
      Accent Base: 4- 8X20 pieces. {Interior Fabric and Interfacing}

*Remember that the 20" is the width of your bag and the 18" is the height of your bag. SO be aware of the pattern and the way you cut your fabric and sew on the accent piece.*
Step 1:
Cut fabric and interfacing.
{I've Ironed on my interfacing already}
Step 2:
Press interfacing to wrong side of each piece of fabric.

Step 3:
Take 1 exterior and accent base and sand which them. {Exterior right side up, accent base right side down} Pin the accent base 8" from the bottom of your exterior. Sew and flip accent right side up and press. *Repeat with other exterior and accent base*

Step 4:
Pin 2 exterior pieces together right sides facing and sew. Sew sides and bottom, but not the top. * Repeat with interior pieces*

Step 5:
Pull your corners out so that the side seam and the bottom seam align creating a triangle. On the exterior measure 3.5" down and draw a line and pin. Do this to both bottom corners. Do this same method for the interior pieces, but only measure 3".
Step 6:
If you have a surger surge along the line in the corner. I don't have a surger; so I do a zig-zag stitch. To ensure its going to be tough, I zig zag twice and then do a straight stitch down the center of that and then zig zag my cut.
Step 7:
Pin the handles together right sides facing and sew. Leaving the ends open.
Pull right side out and press. Make sure your seams are straight when you press them. Top stitch handles.

Step 8:
Pin the ends of your handles 5.5" from the side seams of your interior bag. Make sure. you are pinning the handles on the wrong side of the interior bag.

*If you want the Interior color of the handle to be on the outside, then pin like the picture above. If not, pin so the Exterior color faces up.*

Step 9:
Place your exterior bag inside your interior bag. Making sure right sides are facing. Pull bottoms to align the top parts of the bags. Pin and sew all the way around except 3". *Make note of where your handles are and backstitch a couple of times over them.
Step 10:
Pull bag through 3" hole. Be careful not to rip any of your seams.
Step 11:
Fold in 3" hole seams and pin. Top stitch around the top of the bag.

Step 12:
Press. Make sure all of your corners are aligned. The interfacing will glue your fabrics together!

Now make a ton more! Have fun!

Until Next Time,
Peace & Love
